"I Know How Hard You Work"   (book)

I Know How Hard You Work is an excellent resource for anyone who has
experienced a stroke or who knows a stroke victim. The author recounts his
own experience with a sense of honesty and integrity, sprinkled with humor.
Anyone who has been in rehabilitation will resonate with the vivid
experiences recounted.  I think the significance of the book is found in the
consistent hope for recovery.
This sentiment is bound to be encouraging to anyone who has experienced a
disability.  The author has made a contribution to the medical profession in
writing this book and I would hope that doctors would recommend the book to
their patients.  I also hope that patients would "discover" this book
because I think it is well worth reading.

"I Know How Hard You Work"   (book)

Just finished reading your book, "I Know How Hard You Work" this weekend.    I enjoyed it very much and now have a better appreciation of what you went through.  I had to chuckle about how you enjoyed harassing the help particularly "Ms. Ratchet".    I apologize for not reading it sooner but that just illustrates how few books I read.  I'm not proud of that fact, however, I am what I am.    By contrast, Susan is a voracious reader and reads at least one or two books weekly.  I've probably read 4 books in the past 5 years and I've got no excuse for it other than I obviously like doing other things.

You've come a long way since the stroke and I hope your improvement continues to a full and complete recovery.    I wish you all the best.

"Eye of the Storm"   (song)

I would be more than happy for him to
use my comments of that beautiful and powerful song.  The sentiment
touched my heart so very much... "The Eye of the Storm" is excellent and
came to me at a time when God knew I needed it the most. Thank you for
  sharing it with me.

"I Know How Hard You Work"   (book)

Review from a French reader whose Dad suffered a heavy stroke in December 2007.

By taking the reader through every thought and stage he went through since his stroke, Paul Sybert offers the reader a great insight into what happens when one is hit by a stroke. He did not see it coming and by putting words where they're sometimes missing Paul sybert not only helps the victims to verbalise while offering family and friends an understanding from the victim's perspective. By focusing on the stroke as a starting point to a new and "undefined" life, this book encourage accpetance rather than depression and anger.

All in all, this book is an introduction to positive thinking, whereby one believes that "the brain is a magnificient organ; whatever image of myself I hold in my brain, it will try to accomplish or make it happen". No need to be a victim or to know someone affected to enjoy and benefit from this book that extends way beyond what its title would suggest. It's not just a lesson of courage but a manual to determination and courage.

"It came without warning" for my Dad too who, at the age of 54, suffered a terrible ischemic stroke affecting the left side of his brain and leaving him with his right side paralyzed and language troubles. The look on his face and his encouragements for me to read further through the chapters every time I see him are a confirmation that Paul Sybert has definitely hit the right spot. I'm looking forward to see a French translation published so the rest the family can enjoy it too.

Note to the French readers: I have asked someone to translate the English version into French. French is their first language. I will let you know when it is available. It will be in "MS Word" format.

Reviewer's Bookwatch • Sept, 2008 •

Strokes can strike at almost any time, which makes them so terrifying. "I Know How Hard You Work: A Journey Through Stroke Recovery" is Paul Sybert's reflection on his own horrifying ordeal when he was faced with an ischemic stroke. He recounts his long road to recovery and hopes to offer readers hope to overcome their own strokes if they are ever unfortunate to experience it. "I Know How Hard You Work" is a must, and a gift to give to anyone who is facing this daunting task of recovery themselves.

"I Know How Hard You Work"   (book)

I wrote this book for myself and for the many other people who bravely and courageously recover from a stoke. One of these is a man living in France named Jean-Baptiste Chardon. I wrote this letter to him. Please accept it as my review of my own book.

Hi Jean-Baptiste Chardon:

I am Paul Sybert and I am recovering from an ischemic stroke, three year now.
I applaud you for your strength and courage in your recovery.
I speak only English. I don't speak French and I rely on your son, Jean-Vincent to translate for me.

I say to you what I say to me: don't ever quit trying. Work daily with your physical therapy. It will pay off. You will be rewarded with many wonderful things: the return of independence and functionality. Do what is hard for you and you will be richly rewarded.

Please accept these few humble words as my "gift" to you. I pray for you each day as I pray for me and other people who struggle as we do with doing each day what others may take for granted. God knows how hard you work and I do too.

You will succeed, you will win, you will recover ....and I will too. I wise person once said to me: "I place my hand in your hand, for together we can do what I could not do alone".

Hope is always your companion.

"I Know How Hard You Work"     (book)

"Mr. Sybert shares his emotions as he realizes that his physical condition suddenly changes as he suffers a stoke while being alone in his living room.  He re-lives his story of his first few critical days, and  how the caring, dedicated people usher will his progress.  He writes of how they inspire him though depression, how they laugh together, and how they joust one another. He shares his solemn moments as he cries during his quest to return to his daily routines, and as he questions himself whether it is achievable.  He writes of this return home and the challenges of the "steps", and the fears of what the future will bring.

"I Know I How Hard You Work" is a story in human courage from Mr. Sybert.  His "practices" inspires not only himself, but all of us that read of his drive for recovery."
